PICTURES of the inside of a filthy takeaway have been revealed after the owner appeared in court this week.

The former owner of Salt and Pepper, in Darlington - which is now run by a different operator and with a new name - was in court on Tuesday charged with breaches of hygiene regulations.

It followed a routine visit from Darlington Borough Council's environmental health team last May.

A Darlington Borough Council spokesperson said: "Environmental health ensured the business was properly cleaned before it was allowed to reopen and took court action in the interests of public health."

Salt and Pepper was given a hygiene rating of zero following the inspection - the lowest rating.
