A CLOSURE order on a property in a village near Durham has been extended following concern about drug related behaviour.

The property in Cypress Court, Brandon had been causing significant concern for other residents due to drug related activity and disturbances through the night.

Problems have been going on for a number of months.

A three-month order to close the property was initially granted in October.

On Tuesday, magistrates in Peterlee granted an extension to the order following a request by the Framwellgate Moor and Meadowfield neighbourhood policing team.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: “The order was successful in reducing the number of incidents however they haven't stopped altogether, so officers took the matter back to court to have the order extended for another three months.

“Officers were successful in their application and the property remains closed to everyone except the occupant and his immediate named support network.”

Anyone found on the premises in breach of the order could face up to 51 weeks imprisonment.

Police will continue to monitor the property over the next three months.

Anyone with concerns about drug related activity is asked to report it to police on 101 or make an anonymous report to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
