A 19-YEAR-old Northallerton man has revealed a new business called Northallerton Eats set to “give back to the community” and take less commission from takeaway owners.

Reece Baty, 19 from Northallerton, set up the business after working in the takeaway industry himself.

The owner of the chip shop in Northallerton told him the percentage of commission JustEat takes from takeaways when they use the service.

According to Mr Baty, JustEat takes 14 to 22 per cent commission from owners whereas Northallerton Eats offers a more reduced seven-point-five per cent commission.

The service is set to have its own app and website launching in a few week’s time and already has a number of takeaway business signed up such as Uno Momento and LB Quality Grocers.

Mr Baty said he wanted to stress that he had “been in the takeaway businesses serving customers” and realised that many takeaway owners felt the JustEat commission was too much.

He said: “We want to educate local takeaways to join the business really, as well as customers.

"I got the idea as I was working in a Local takeaway and the takeaway Owner was tell me about the Just Eat Commission been so high and the lack of support from Just eat customer service if the take away owner had any issue they would not support the takeaway.

“I went back that night and thought about how many other takeaways are thinking this.

“I’ve worked in the industry, I’ve served on machines and I’ve served customers and just wondered how many others were thinking.

"I decided to do it in Northallerton as it my Home town, making it a local thing to help business and save them nearly £600 to £800 a week on Just Eat fees.

“Because we offer them low commission fees they can afford to put their prices down so the locals can afford to have some food, and we will offer promotions and discounts to the restaurants that we pay off our own back, like a 10 per cent discount we pay all that for them."

A spokespereson for JustEat said: "Just Eat is only successful if our restaurant partners are successful.

"We believe our commission rates are aligned with the value we provide to our partners and we have a track record of helping restaurants prosper.

"We're committed to adding value to our partners’ businesses on a daily basis, and many grow and flourish through working with Just Eat."
