THE consultancy firm Steel River has strengthened its team with three strategic appointments at its offices in Stockton and Glasgow.

Founded in 2010 the company, who also have an office in Derby, offer a wide range of Health and Safety consultancy support as well as bespoke Cost and Project Management services.

The firm has appointed eleven new staff members in the last year.

To accommodate its growing team Lindsay Woolvett has been appointed as Assistant Project Manager.

Relocating from Canada, Lindsay has seven years of project management experience and will work with the team on delivering cost and project consultancy to a wide range of public and private clients.

She said: “Most of my experience has been on the general contractor side, so I’m really looking forward to branching out and learning more about the client and consultant side of the industry. It’s an exciting time to join and I can’t wait to see how we develop and grow!”

Lisa-Mari Johnston also relocated from her hometown in South Africa and will be based at the firm’s Glasgow office as a Junior Safety Consultant.

She has six years of experience in the construction industry.

She said: “My first project as a health and safety officer was in the renewable energy sector, so I am excited to be heading back into that direction.”

Victoria Cooper, from Middlesbrough, will join as the firm’s first Marketing Manager and will focus on raising the profile of Steel River Consultants.

Victoria said: “This is a really exciting opportunity. I feel really lucky to join such an ambitious firm and I’m looking forward to shouting about the great things we do.”

 

GMI Construction Group has appointed Lee Powell to the newly created role of Chief Executive Officer to realise its vision of long-term sustainable growth.

The company, which has offices in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and Teesside, is forecasting an annual turnover in excess of £350m for 2022 and has already secured £300m worth of opportunities.

Lee, previously the company’s Divisional Managing Director for Yorkshire, has already overseen exceptional growth in Yorkshire, together with its recent expansion into the North East region – establishing an office in Stockton.

Lee said: said: “I’m enormously proud to become CEO of GMI Construction Group, a role which is focused on growing our presence in our operating regions and facilitating growth of the business in a controlled and sustainable manner."

 

The Irwin Mitchell medical negligence team in Newcastle is enjoying a period of expansion, with six new team members, including a lawyer from East Boldon returning to her roots.

Megan Walker is among those to join. She has spent the last three years at Irwin Mitchell’s London office.

Originally from East Boldon, Megan attended St Joseph’s in Hebburn, before studying law at The University of Leeds. Megan returned to the North East working as a paralegal for 18 months, before undertaking her legal practice course at Northumbria University.

She said: “It has been a great adventure to live in various parts of the UK during my legal career and while I have really enjoyed the last three years in London, now feels like the right time to move back."

The medical negligence team has been further strengthened with the arrival of Rowen Cobb and Hannah Nagle as paralegals; Peter Turner and Summer Hope as litigation assistants, plus new trainee, Hannah Williamson and an Associate Solicitor appointment has been made with Lauren Bullock joining in March.
