OFFICERS have been given more time to question a man arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman in Thornton le Dale.

North Yorkshire Police have today confirmed that the man arrested on Wednesday is 33-years-old and from the Leeds area.

A spokesman said: "Continued policing activity will take place at the address in the coming days and the public can expect to see an increased policing presence in the local area.

"North Yorkshire Police have been granted authority for the continued detention of the man arrested to allow for further enquiries to be undertaken."

The murder investigation was launched after police discovered the body of a woman in a residential property off the High Street in the village near Pickering on Wednesday lunchtime.

It is understood that the woman was a resident of the village.
