MOTORISTS are being to take care this morning, after snow and freezing temperatures overnight affected conditions on many of the region’s roads.
The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for the whole of Northern England, warning of freezing conditions until about 11am.
It warned of icy patches on untreated roads, pavement and cycle paths.

And National Highways: North East said whilst many routes were being treated overnight, that would not stop snow and sleet settling, particularly on higher ground.

The A66 between the A685 at Brough and the A67 at Bowes remains open, as of 8am, but snow is said to be settling mostly in lane two.
As these traffic and weather cameras from across the North East and North Yorkshire show, drivers should take care whilst out on the roads today.
Snow has fallen across much of County Durham and these images from weather cameras on higher ground - at Tow Law, Forest-in-Teesdale and Medomsley - show that whilst the roads are mostly clear it is still wise to take extra care.
Durham County Council's team of gritters has been busy overnight and continues to treat roads, the map below shows the roads already salted in green and the Pennine routes which continue to be treated.
