FIREFIGHTERS from County Durham came to rescue of a 20-month-old dog after it fell down a mine shaft.

Lucy, a spaniel/lurcher cross fell into a disused mine shaft yesterday (Wednesday). 

The dog fell 10 metres into the shaft, on Edmundbyers fell, between Stanhope and Blanchland, sparking a rescue mission.

The Northern Echo:

Firefighters from Stanhope came to the rescue and were able to reach Lucy with specialist rope lines and long reach poles and reunited her with her owners. 

In a post on social media, County Durham Fire and Rescue Service said: "She was very cold and wet but happy to be reunited with her relieved owner. 

"Nothing is im-paws-ible when our crews are involved!"
