MORE than 1.2 million people have had their Covid-19 vaccine booster in the North East as further vaccination centres open up to help with the national effort.

The government continues to urge all those eligible to come forward as soon as possible to Get Boosted Now.

More than 52 per cent of the adult UK population are now boosted after the programme was accelerated las week to offer the jab to everyone aged over 18.

NHS England has also launched a recruitment drive for 10,000 new vaccinators, administration staff, healthcare support workers and volunteers to join the national vaccination mission.

Extra vaccine sites, mobile clinics and pop-up events have been deployed with extended opening hours, providing seven days a week services to make it as easy as possible to get vaccinated.
