THE “UK’s Queen of Soul” Mica Paris will travel to Sunderland tomorrow for a special performance at the city’s new £18m venue, The Fire Station.

The soul icon will appear at the soon-to-be-opened venue in Sunderland town centre tomorrow evening for an “unmissable night” of powerful soul and gospel classics from her latest album.

As part of the show, the celebrated singer will also perform some of her hit singles from her illustrious thirty-year career, including the chart-topper ‘My One Temptation’, ‘I Should’ve Known Better’ and ‘Breathe Life into Me’.

After growing up singing gospel music every weekend with her grandparents at her South London church in Lewisham, she paved the way to perform with Spirit of Watts gospel choir and the 80s pop band, Hollywood Beyond.

In 1988, she released her platinum-selling debut album ‘So Good’ on Island Records at just 19-years-old before skyrocketing to international fame.

Since the huge success of her debut, the singer embarked on an incredible career in which she released eight top-selling records, performed on the West End, published a book and collaborated with some of the biggest names in pop and soul, including Prince, Anita Baker, Natalie Cole and Boy George.

In December 2020, she released her first album in over a decade, 'Gospel'. Topping the UK R&B Album charts, Gospel was met with universal acclaim from both critics and fans for her powerful vocals and eclectic song choices. 

Mica Paris is part of the venue’s opening programme, Firestarters, which will run from December this year through to June 2022.
