POLICE say they have interviewed a man in connection with the fire at The Star Inn  which saw the much loved pub reduced to ashes.

The fire, which occurred on Wednesday November 24, saw nine fire engines called out to the blaze after the thatched roof caught fire.

Owners of the pub released a video of the fire on social media on Wednesday night, tweeting: “it’s been a long night so far, I’m afraid we won’t be open for a while as we are reduced to ashes with The Star on fire and still burning.”

Following the fire, investigation officers examined the scene of the incident and believe the fire was deliberately started.

According to the police, the man voluntarily attended a local police station and was interviewed under caution, he was reportedly in the area on the night of the fire.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “The investigation is continuing, police are urging anyone with information about this incident to contact them.
