The celebration was then followed by a talk about the great man himself and his close connection with Blenheim Palace, hosted by Antonia Keaney, the Palace’s social historian and author.

The Oxfordshire UNESCO World Heritage Site has been offering virtual tours throughout the pandemic in order that people can continue to enjoy all the rich history and splendour that Blenheim Palace has to offer.

Entitled ‘The Unknown Churchill,’ Antonia’s talk gave new and refreshing insights into Churchill, through the private resources of Blenheim Palace.

She examined the breadth of talent, achievement and personality of the ‘Greatest Briton’: from soldier to politician, statesman to painter, writer to orator, family man to bricklayer.

Antonia said: “I’m proud to say we have broadcast a total of eight live-streamed events for Barchester residents and it has been wonderful that so many people have been able to join our talks.

“Blenheim Palace has such a fantastic history, we have thoroughly enjoyed being able to share some of its amazing stories with all the residents and patients through our series of tours and talks.”

Lucy Tomlinson of Barchester Healthcare, added: "We are excited to work with our wonderful partners like Blenheim Palace to bring a wide range of fascinating experiences into our homes for all to enjoy.

"This talk gave us a real insight into Churchill’s life and all the other talents he had outside of politics, we’ve all learned so much about him – he really was a colourful character.”
