A COMMUNITY is seeking permission to add another name to its memorial to those who died in the First and Second World Wars.

The memorial was raised at Middleton-in-Teesdale as a permanent testament to the sacrifice made by the members of the local community who lost their lives in the First World War.

The memorial was unveiled on October 23, 1921 by Lord Barnard, and dedicated by Reverend W Sumner. It commemorates 32 local servicemen who were killed in action during the First World War and a further three who died as a result of their war service.

The name of A C MCBAY is to be added below G WRIGHT on the north-east face of the obelisk, commemorating those who fell in the Second World War 1939-1945, spaced below the existing 10 names with identical line spacing.

The proposed addition of a name commemorating those fallen in the Second World War. Research has been conducted into the birth, family, service and death of Arthur Cave McBay and a period of consultation was conducted in the local community, closing October 15, 2021. 14 responses were received by email/ social media, all positive and in support of the addition of the name.
