FIGURES have revealed how many people have had the booster jab in the North East.

NHS England data, published for the first time, shows 29,336 people aged 50 and over in Redcar and Cleveland have received a booster jab, this is compared to 38,428 people aged 50 and over in Stockton.

In County Durham half of people aged 50 and over have had the third dose, figures suggest 114,559 people have had the booster jab as of November 21.

In Darlington, Hambleton and Richmondshire more than half of people 50 and over had opted to go and get the third jab.

Less than half of people in two Teesside towns have had the booster jab, recent figures revealed.

Less than half of people aged 50 and above in Redcar and Cleveland and in Stockton have had the booster jab or third vaccine dose.

In Darlington figures said 24,570 people 50 and above had had the jab, Hambelton 25,759 people and Richmondshire 11,924 people.

This comes after masks were reintroduced as mandatory in shops and on public transport today (Tuesday).

School children in Year 7 and above are also being advised to wear a mask in communal areas of schools.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid last night confirmed the Covid Booster jab would be offered to all adults as officials grow increasingly concerned about the Covid Omicron variant.

Mr Javid last night said the Government was expecting to see a rise in Omicron cases in coming days.

In Redcar and Cleveland at least 46% of people aged 50 and above, based on the number of people on the National Immunisation Management Service, had not had the third jab.

How each area compares

Across the North East and Yorkshire as a whole, around 53% of over-50s had received a booster jab or third dose by November 21.

The figures show that by November 21 in County Durham:

  • 8,641 people aged between 50 and 54 had received a booster jab or third vaccine dose – 22% of the age group
  • 10,909 people aged between 55 and 59 had an extra dose – 27%
  • As had 12,164 people aged between 60 and 64 – 34%
  • 16,965 people aged between 65 and 69 – 54%
  • 23,771 people aged between 70 and 74 – 77%
  • 18,909 people aged between 75 and 79 – 85%
  • And 23,200 people aged 80 and over – 84%

The figures show that by November 21 in Redcar and Cleveland:

  • 2,102 people aged between 50 and 54 had received a booster jab or third vaccine dose – 21% of the age group
  • 2,750 people aged between 55 and 59 had an extra dose – 25%
  • As had 2,962 people aged between 60 and 64 – 30%
  • 3,898 people aged between 65 and 69 – 46%
  • 6,071 people aged between 70 and 74 – 70%
  • 5,111 people aged between 75 and 79 – 79%
  • And 6,442 people aged 80 and over – 78%

The figures show that by November 21 in Darlington:

  • 1,579 people aged between 50 and 54 had received a booster jab or third vaccine dose – 19% of the age group
  • 2,037 people aged between 55 and 59 had an extra dose – 25%
  • As had 2,534 people aged between 60 and 64 – 35%
  • 4,304 people aged between 65 and 69 – 70%
  • 5,065 people aged between 70 and 74 – 83%
  • 3,820 people aged between 75 and 79 – 87%
  • And 5,231 people aged 80 and over – 88%

In Stockton 48% of people aged 50 and above, based on the number of people on the National Immunisation Management Service.

The figures show that by November 21 in Stockton:

  • 2,977 people aged between 50 and 54 had received a booster jab or third vaccine dose – 21% of the age group
  • 3,691 people aged between 55 and 59 had an extra dose – 25%
  • As had 4,301 people aged between 60 and 64 – 33%
  • 6,099 people aged between 65 and 69 – 55%
  • 7,782 people aged between 70 and 74 – 75%
  • 5,921 people aged between 75 and 79 – 84%
  • And 7,657 people aged 80 and over – 84%

The figures show that by November 21 in Hambleton:

  • 1,572 people aged between 50 and 54 had received a booster jab or third vaccine dose – 22% of the age group
  • 2,287 people aged between 55 and 59 had an extra dose – 29%
  • As had 2,674 people aged between 60 and 64 – 37%
  • 3,583 people aged between 65 and 69 – 57%
  • 5,267 people aged between 70 and 74 – 79%
  • 4,535 people aged between 75 and 79 – 87%
  • And 5,841 people aged 80 and over – 88%

The figures show that by November 21 in Richmondshire:

  • 621 people aged between 50 and 54 had received a booster jab or third vaccine dose – 17% of the age group
  • 854 people aged between 55 and 59 had an extra dose – 22%
  • As had 1,186 people aged between 60 and 64 – 32%
  • 1,995 people aged between 65 and 69 – 62%
  • 2,728 people aged between 70 and 74 – 84%
  • 2,116 people aged between 75 and 79 – 89%
  • And 2,424 people aged 80 and over – 83%.
