A JAIL sentence has been handed to a woman who assaulted a police officer and committed a string of shop thefts on Teesside.

North Yorkshire Magistrates activated a suspended sentence for Zoe Walker after she admitted assaulting a PC by beating him in Whitby on July 23 this year.

Walker, of no fixed address, was already on a 12-week suspended prison sentence for a series of thefts from shops in Middlesbrough.

She addmitted stealing £96 worth of alcohol from Sainsbury's on Wilson Street on October 7, 2021, £60 worth of items from Poundland on November 9, 2020, and underwear worth £129.99 from TJ Hughes in Captain Cook Square on October 23, 2019.

She also admitted breaching a conditional discharge, committing further offences whilst under a suspended sentence order and failing to surrender for custody and court appearances whilst on bail.

Magistrates sitting at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (November 18) jailed Walker for 12-weeks.

They said the prison sentence was imposed due to the 27-year-old’s ‘flagrant disregard for court orders’.

She was also ordered to pay £50 compensation for the assault on the police officer.
