Police are appealing after a fire at a first-floor property in a North East town's suburb which is being investigated as arson.

The fire occurred around 12.15am on Sunday, November 21 at a property on Tollesby Bridge, in Coulby Newham.

The occupants, a 33-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, managed to get out of the property but suffered smoke inhalation.

Both were checked over by paramedics.

Anyone who may have information or may have witnessed the incident, or anyone who may have noticed anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident, is asked to contact Detective Constable Andy Bennett from Middlesbrough CID on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident number 198151.
