POLICE are appealing for information after an alleged armed robbery in County Durham. 

The incident was reported in the Stanley area at about 9.30am on Saturday.

Suspects made off with a quantity of cash after two men wearing face coverings are believed to have entered the Southmoor Spar Shop/Post Office in Park Road.

One of the men is reported to have approached the counter with a knife and made demands for cash.

He is described as around 6ft of heavy build, wearing a blue NY cap and denim shirt.

The second suspect, who is believed to have waited by the door, is described as around 5ft10 of broad build, wearing a black woollen hat and black top.

Nobody was injured during the incident, and the suspects made off with a quantity of cash, a spokesperson for Durham Police said.

Officers investigating the incident are appealing for witnesses and have released CCTV images of two men they would like to speak to.
