A MAN and a woman have been taken to hospital after a masked gang smashed windows and fired a weapon at a door of a house.

Officers are patrolling the Ormesby area today following the incident last night at around 9pm.

Cleveland Police received a report that a group of men with their faces covered had smashed windows and discharged a weapon at the rear door of a house on Tebay Close before leaving in a vehicle.

On arrival a man and woman inside the address were discovered to have suffered injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

They were taken to hospital for treatment.

A police spokesman said: "We would like to reassure residents that enquiries are on-going, with several officers still in the area.

"This does appear to be a targeted incident and at this time there is not believed to be any risk to the wider public.

"We’d urge anyone with information, dash cam or CCTV footage which could help establish the circumstances around this incident and identify those responsible to contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting Ref 192915.

"If you don’t want to speak to police, information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers online at crimestoppers-uk.org or by phoning 0800 555 111."
