ICL Boulby, the world’s first and only producer of the ground-breaking mineral polyhalite, is continuing to break production records—and has increased sales volume by over 90 per cent in the third quarter of the year compared to 2020.

Over the last month the mine hit its highest hoist of over 90,000 tonnes and recording its best ever monthly processed polyhalite production performance of over 80,000 tonnes.

These achievements were described by Boulby General Manager and Vice President Andrew Fulton as an ‘amazing and unprecedented performance thanks to the efforts of all our staff and their commitment to achieving our targets and securing the future of the business.’

This latest boost comes as multi-nutrient fertilisers produced at Boulby and marketed as Polysulphate have gained confirmation from the leading international certification body Control Union that they are approved for use in organic farming.

Mr Fulton said: “The significant increase in sales volume underlines that, despite the many challenges posed by the pandemic, we have been able to continue production throughout and are now making real and sustained progress."

Over recent weeks products from Boulby have been transported by rail to Teesdock for destinations including China, Brazil, the USA as well the UK and Europe.
