VISITORS to a North-East park were running scared this morning after it was invaded by ghouls, skeletons, vampires, witches and zombies.

The 100th Darlington Junior Parkrun was given a Halloween theme – and hordes of monstrous joggers turned out in South Park despite howling winds and rain.

Run director Philippa Rayner said: “It was really gruesome weather, but we still had a fantastic turnout, so well done to the children and parents for dressing up and braving the conditions.

“We also couldn’t have staged the event without the marshals who, as always, gave up their time and entered into the Halloween spirit. It was a very scary morning – but great fun."

Treats were handed out at the finishing line to make it all worthwhile for the little monsters.
