POLICE are appealing for information from witnesses to an incident in which a motorist died after his car crashed off the A19.

The single-vehicle collision, involving a silver BMW X3, took place on the southbound carriageway of the dual carriageway, near to the Dalton Park slip road, between Murton and Seaham, at 8.43pm, last night.

Durham Police said: “Emergency CPR was carried out on the man, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, but sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.” The road was closed in both directions, between Seaton and Easington turn-offs, while emergency services worked at the scene.

It has since reopened to traffic in both directions.

Accident investigators would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who may have any dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident.

They are asked to call Durham Constabulary, on 101, quoting incident number 464 with any information which may assist the inquiry.
