POLICE have stopped the illegal sale of fireworks on social media by a teenager.

Bishop Auckland Neighbourhood Team received intelligence that a young boy was illegally selling fireworks via the social network Snapchat.

The fireworks were then being used in an anti-social way causing distress to members of the public.

Police quickly identified and located the boy, and officers paid him a visit and spoke to him with the company of his parents.

A house search was conducted to locate the fireworks and the boy was warned and reprimanded. This was the boy’s first interaction with the police and they hope that it is his last.

This came after PCSOs from Durham Constabulary visited Bishop Barrington School to speak with young people about the dangers of fireworks, using a presentation created in partnership with County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service.
