AN important update regarding Darlington tip's current booking system has been issued.

The booking system was introduced last year to help with social distancing, to ensure the site was Covid-compliant and to tackle road-safety issues caused by queuing traffic and congestion at busy times.

It was kept under review as restrictions changed and from Monday November 8 residents will no longer need to book a slot to use the tip.

Members of the public are still being asked to wear face coverings and adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Councillor Andy Keir, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for local services, said: “The booking system generally worked really well and was actually quite popular with many residents.

“We kept the system in place to help keep users and staff safe, and to manage traffic flow onto the site, but we kept the situation under review as restrictions continued to ease.

“We’ve decided that the booking system can now safely be removed and from Monday November 8, residents will no longer need to book a slot. However, we would urge people to continue to wear a face covering if possible and adhere to social distancing guidelines and please remember that the tip is for the borough’s residents only.”

The site is open 8am-6pm every day, except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, weather permitting.

The tip is for household waste only.

When the booking system was introduced at the start of the pandemic, everyone was asked to show their appointment confirmation and proof that they live in the borough before they could get into the tip and people would be turned away on arrival if they did not have a booking.

From next month, this will no longer be the case and the tip will operate as it did before the pandemic.

Following the government’s press briefing last week, there is, as of yet, no intention to implement Plan B.
