THREE neighbours in Consett are celebrating after scooping a huge £90,000 with the People’s Postcode Lottery.

The County Durham postcode DH8 0RW was announced as a winner with the lottery earlier this month landing three neighbours £30,000 each.

Sarah Barnes, 44, one of the lucky winners netted the cash thanks to her fortunate postcode and only found out how much she’d won after the lottery knocked on her door.

She said: “It feels like a dream. A really bizarre, really strange feeling, a very happy feeling.”

The mum-of-two now plans to take her sons on a dream holiday. She said: “A holiday would be amazing, and I’ll definitely put a deposit down on something now.

“Disney World would be nice for sure, taking my oldest and youngest would be great.”

Ms Barnes, a local social worker, also hopes to make some home improvements with her winnings. She added: “A new kitchen is the first thing on the list, so that will be really nice as we’ve been putting it off.”

'It's amazing'

But she wasn’t the only one excited about the lottery arriving at her door with her husband and son overjoyed at the win. She said: “They both didn’t quite believe it until they saw the cheque, my son ran around the house making little videos, dead happy shouting, ‘It’s amazing, it’s amazing!”

Along with £30k Ms Barnes also recently won one of the lottery’s non-cash prizes. She said: “Only a few weeks ago we won a prize voucher for a book or something else.

“We ended up picking a Lego cabinet from the selection of prizes for Billy. He thought he won the lottery just winning the cabinet!”

She was delighted to hear that two of her neighbours had also won £30,000. She said: “Everybody round here are all hard-working, good people and for the people on the street to win something like this, its spreading something great.”

Celebrations

The win came just a few weeks before her 45th birthday. She said: “We’ll celebrate properly by going out for dinner with the wider family for my birthday and to celebrate this great news.”

The other two winners chose to remain anonymous.

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt said: “I’m over the moon for our three lucky winners in Consett. It was so lovely to surprise Sarah with this amazing news. Consett has a special place in my heart as its close to where I grew up and I even went to school with Sarah’s husband Steve!

“I hope all the winners go and treat themselves and enjoy celebrating.”
