A SHOOTING star lit up the skies over the North East on Friday evening.
A resident captured the moment the meteor darted through the sky thanks to their doorbell camera.
Footage from Darlington resident Julie Richardson shows the moment the fireball darted through the sky at 9:20pm on Friday.
It was taken in the Harrowgate Hill and social media users also reported seeing the meteor in Peterlee and the Northumberland coast as well as other parts of the UK.

One person said: "If this is what we saw over Sunderland it appeared to fizzle out over the North Sea. It was bright and too quick to be anything else."
And a Twitter user said: "I saw something like this at around 22.13 this eve. Bright orange “fireball” like it was falling from the sky, disappeared and left a trail of smoke after it. Was so bright it lit up my room and I thought there was a fire outside."
