A WOMAN was taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Darlington last night.

It happened at about 7.30pm in North Road, near the junction with Denmark Street.

Mandy Theakston was treated at the scene for head and leg injuries before being taken to James Cook University Hospital.

Durham Police confirmed the incident involved an Audi A4, which had collided with a woman in her 50s.

The driver of the car was spoken to at the scene.

Her daughter Millie Wheelhouse has asked anyone who saw what happened to get in touch with police.

She said she had been bit by a car. 

Millie, who thanked those who had helped at the scene,  said her mam had a broken ankle but was "stable and alert" after having surgery.

She added: "If anyone saw anything or has dashcam or CCTV footage can you please contact police."

A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We got a call at 7.32pm last night to reports of a collision between a car and a woman.

“We dispatched a paramedic ambulance and treated her for head and leg injuries before taking her to James Cook University Hospital.”

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to reports of a collision in North Road, Darlington, at around 7.30pm last night (October 13).

"The incident involved an Audi A4 which collided with a woman in her 50s.

"The injured woman was taken to James Cook University Hospital.

"The driver was spoken to at the scene and enquiries are ongoing."
