A NEW fight championship set up by two friends is to take place in a Teesside town for the first time in four years.

British Fighting Championship is a new Middlesbrough based MMA fight promotion set up by two friends and long-time fight fans, Steve Bigland and Neville Dazley.

MMA is “mixed martial arts” a hybrid fight sport taking elements from wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu, boxing, Muay Thai, judo and karate and blending them together.

MMA is a fast-paced and exciting sport, it has many rules to keep the athletes safe, but it is as close to a real fight as it is possible to get.

It has been almost four years since the last MMA competition was held in Middlesbrough.

Despite the pandemic, the sport has grown globally and is now the fastest-growing sport in the world.

The two MMA enthusiasts believe that the time is now right for the MMA gyms around Middlesbrough to have a “home” fixture and for the residents of Middlesbrough to experience amateur and professional Mixed Martial Arts live.

The event will take place on the evening of Saturday, October 23 at Middlesbrough Sports Village.

There will be 15 to 20 bouts on the card. Starting with amateur contests and completing with professional bouts.

Competitors are coming from all over the UK.

Tickets are available here.

BFC1 will be recorded by a production company from Stokesley called AXIOM.

They currently also produce events for the UK’s largest MMA promotion, Cage Warriors.

All fights will be available on YouTube a few days after the event.
