A HONEYMOON break is a traditional staple of most newly-married couples but a ‘babymoon’ is the holiday trend for couples taking the next step of starting a family – and two locations in North Yorkshire have been named as the best in the UK to enjoy one.
‘Babymoon’ is the term being given to parents-to-be to enjoying a final child-free getaway before nappy changes and pushchairs take over.

The babymoon offers the expectant parents some much-needed quality time away together before taking on all of the responsibilities that parenthood offers.
And often they are taken in the UK to avoid the extra stresses and risks that flights can bring during the later stages of pregnancy.
Online giftcard firm Flowercard has compiled a list of the best UK babymoon locations by researching Tripadvisor reviews and ranking locations on factors such as how many romantic hotels they boast and how many couple-friendly activities they offer.

The cost of a three and four-star hotel room per night is also included in the rankings.
The Lake District comes out top, but two North Yorkshire destinations – The North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales – make the top ten at number four and six respectively.
The research states that the North York Moors has 55 romantic hotels per 10,000 population, along with 46 romantic restaurants.

Using the same population measure, The Dales has 114 romantic hotels and 22 romantic restaurants.
Both locations scored well on couples’ activities and hotel room prices too.
Perhaps surprisingly, York, famed for its romantic city walls and historic shopping streets only ranks 30th on the top 35 babymoon destinations list.
Durham City doesn’t feature at all and only Northumberland represents the North-East, ranked at 27.
