AN 89-year-old motorist caught driving without due care on one of North Yorkshire’s busiest roads must take a re-test before being allowed back behind the wheel.

Thomas Hudson Squirrel, was driving a Ford Focus on the A64 at Rillington, near Malton, with an expired licence in June this year.

Officers also charged him with driving without due care and attention.

The 89-year-old, of Main Street in Allerston, Pickering, pleaded guilty before North Yorkshire Magistrates on October 6 to driving without the correct licence and without due care and attention.

He was ordered to pay a total of £204 in court fines, costs and charges.

His licence was also endorsed with five points and he is disqualified from driving until he passes a new test.
