POLICE investigating a morning rush-hour crash on the motorway in County Durham have issued an appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage.

Officers are appealing for information following the collision involving three vehicles – two cars and a lorry – which happened near Bowburn Interchange.

The incident occurred shortly after 8am on Wednesday, October 6 on the southbound carriageway of the A1(M) at junction 61.

The road was shut for just over an hour.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "It involved a blue Ford Focus, red Vauxhall Adam and a Renault Lorry.

"Officers are keen to speak to anyone who directly witnessed the collision."

Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to pass it on to PC Paul Oliver who is from the Roads Policing Unit.

He can be contacted on extension 0191-3742704 quoting incident number 47 of October 6.
