THE boss of the company behind the Bilsdale mast has vowed to do “whatever it takes” to rectify the situation” for thousands of people still without TV signal.

Paul Donovan, chief executive of Arqiva, visited The Northern Echo headquarters in Priestgate, Darlington, yesterday afternoon and said that plans were in place to reduce the number of households affected by the disruption down to 10,000 in the coming weeks.

The Northern Echo:

Despite this, there will still be many areas without TV signal in places that Arqiva are calling “not-spots” even after a temporary mast has been constructed. These include coastal and rural areas such as Leyburn and the Yorkshire Dales.

In the first of a three-part series, Mr Donovan confirmed that the new temporary mast was on track to be completed on Tuesday, as long as the “weather goes well.”

But he admitted that full television and radio coverage across the region can only be restored once a new 300-metre mast has been built. The company said that it intends to spend “significant amounts of money”providing services to people with no coverage.
