EMERGENCY services have been called to the beach at Saltburn after it was reported a man was hit by falling rocks.

The incident happened around 2.15pm today at Saltburn's Huntcliff. 

The fire brigade, ambulance service, coastguard and two lifeboats were all called to the scene.

The man has now been rescued and taken off the beach.

Emergency services are still on the scene and are stationed at the Ship Inn pub.

Traffic was diverted from the scene.

A spokesperson from the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 2.24pm to a person who had been hit by falling rocks on Saltburn beach.

"We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and a clinical care manager. We are currently still on the scene."

Beachgoers have been advised over the past couple of years by the council and emergency services to stay clear of the area below Huntcliff in case of falling rocks.
