YouFibre, the new gigabit full-fibre broadband provider, has just connected its first customer in Houghton-le-Spring.

YouFibre presented IT professional Andrew Penman with a bottle of Champagne and has given him and his family the first year’s full-fibre broadband service for free as a further ‘thank you’.

He had been looking for a faster broadband connection now that he is working and studying from home much of the time, including taking part in video lectures and meetings.

Ryan Battle, managing director of YouFibre, said: “We’re incredibly excited about welcoming Andrew as our first customer in Houghton-le-Spring. We’re transforming the lives of people like them by providing hyperfast broadband speeds that can be relied upon.”

“The broadband industry has overcharged and underdelivered for too long, we want to break the mould by providing a faster connection and a better service at lower prices. Everyone should have affordable access to fast internet, so a whole household can seamlessly work, live and play online. We’ve seen a real appetite for better broadband in Houghton and look forward to getting many more customers connected to the network soon.”

YouFibre offers a range of new broadband packages in Houghton, including YouFibre 500, which offers speeds of up to 500 Mbps, around six times faster than the UK average.

Speeds of around 500 and 1000 Mbps will ensure households and even most business broadband users will not only be able to do just about anything they want online, but that all the family or those in the workplace can do what they want too, simultaneously.

YouFibre also offers hyperfast broadband services, with speeds of up to 10,000 Mbps, 156 times the UK average of 80.2 Mbps, on full-fibre networks.

Full-fibre uses fibre-optic cables to deliver broadband direct to properties, providing faster, more reliable speeds and service than copper-based networks used by many broadband providers, with the same download and upload speeds, providing a future-proofed network.

YouFibre’s services are based on wholesale, open networks built by other companies including Netomnia, the gigabit full-fibre network investor and builder. Netomnia announced in May 2021 that it has started constructing new broadband networks in Houghton as part of its £54m investment in the north-east of England.
