AMAZON has said it is creating 2,000 jobs across all three North East warehouses as it prepares for the busy festive period.

The online retailer has today confirmed a huge recruitment drive for seasonal workers at Fulfilment Centres in Durham, Darlington and Gateshead.

It has also said there are seasonal roles now available at its smaller distribution and delivery centres in Gateshead and Newcastle.

He said: “We look forward to welcoming back seasonal workers who return year-after-year to Amazon and to welcome new faces to the team, many of whom will continue on to full-time roles with the company after the festive period.”

The recruitment drive comes as Amazon nationally is hiring around 20,000 seasonal workers to work across its UK network of Fulfilment Centres and delivery stations.

Rachel Anderson, assistant director of policy, North East England Chamber of Commerce said: “This is great news for the region and a testament to our tremendous workforce and logistics expertise here in the North East.

"Amazon’s growth is unprecedented and offers employment opportunities for many people who might otherwise have struggled to get on their careers ladder.”

How to apply

The roles have gone live on the official Amazon jobs website - here - and shows pay beginning at £10 an hour for day time shifts, and £11 an hour for night time shifts.

Meanwhile, it said that pay rates for workers in the North East are up to £20 an hour when working overtime.
