A BOUNCER linked to an altercation outside a Darlington pub has lost his licence.

Police opened an investigation into the incident outside the Boot & Shoe pub in the town centre on Saturday, June 12.

Video footage shared on social media showed a doorman taking a swing at a man before wrestling him to the ground on Church Row.

The owners of the pub told The Northern Echo at the time that the security company working at the venue had stepped down after the incident.

But the pub faced a fierce backlash from the public with staff members receiving death threats and eggs and coffee thrown at the pub, according to owner Chris Metters.

Durham Constabulary interviewed a man in connection with the incident but no arrests were made and it is believed to have closed its investigation.

However, the watchdog that oversees the security industry has banned him from working in the sector ever again.

The Security Industry Authority said: "We wrote to the person in question on 21 August revoking their licence.

"We notified him that he had a legal right to appeal our revocation in a Magistrates’ or Sherriff court within 21 days of the date of the notification.

"We didn’t receive notice of any such appeal within that timescale. As a consequence, he is no longer licensed and cannot work in the regulated security industry."

And Darlington Borough Council confirmed no action will be taken against the premises.

A spokeswoman said: “We understand the police investigation has now concluded.

"From the council’s licensing perspective, the venue fully cooperated with the investigation and we will not be taking any further action against the premises. Incidents relating to a licensed door staff can be reported to the Security Industry Authority.”
