TRAIN travel has been disrupted this morning after thieves stole signalling cables on one of the region's rail lines.

Rail services running between Middlesbrough and Sunderland are running at reduced speeds following the theft of signalling cables.

Services affected are currently delayed by up to 20 minutes, which is expected to continue until about 11am.

Signalling cable provides power and transmits signals across all trackside signalling equipment which is needed to keep the rail networks, passengers and cargo, moving safely.
