Go North East cancels DOZENS of services due to driver shortages

Dozens of services due to operate across County Durham and Tyne & Wear have had to be cancelled by Go North East today.

Services including the Newcastle to Brandon 21 and Durham to South Shields 20 are among those routes facing disruption right throughout the day.

It comes as The Northern Echo previously reported claims some of its services had faced disruption earlier this year due to staff leaving as concerns over pay were raised.

Meanwhile, earlier this week it emerged the company had increased its pay for new starters in a bid to overcome a shortage of applicants.

Go North East has released a full list of services that it says are not expected to operate due to a "national driver shortage" and "higher-than-usual" levels of sickness absence.

In a statement, the company said: "Due to the current national driver shortage which is affecting all sectors, and higher-than-usual levels of sickness absence, the following journeys are not expected to operate on Tuesday 14th September 2021."

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Please do not take any issues out on our team who are at work and operating our other journeys – it’s not their fault.

"They, like everyone else, are trying their best to operate as good a service as possible."
