THERE may not have been any horses at Bowes Show at the weekend – but strong sheep, dog and industrial classes ensured it was still a resounding success.

Show secretary Liz Redfern said competitors and visitors all seemed to enjoy the event, which was held at Gilmonby on Saturday.

Organisers only decided to go ahead with this year's show back in May so made the tough decision not to include a horse and pony section, as many competitors travel long distances to take part and it was not clear whether there would be Covid travel restriction in place and the previous secretary was not able to run the section.

Mrs Redfern said: "It was a shame to not have horses this year but we did have the Northern Sheepdog Association running a sheepdog trial, which will become a yearly feature.

"So next year we will have horses and sheepdogs.

"We had good industrial and livestock sections, especially the sheep along with dogs – this is sheep country after all, vintage tractors and brilliant entertainment from Walworth Birds of Prey, a gundog demo and Punch and Judy.

"It isn't easy to organise a show in three months, a lot of people put in a lot of effort and we're pleased everyone seemed to enjoy it."
