A TURKISH barber has brought his business back into Durham Market Hall, six years after he opened his first barbershop there.

Veysel Huner has opened Sharp Turkish Barbers in unit 38 in the Market Hall, having originally operated as NV Barbers when he opened his first business in 2015, bringing with him the extensive customerbase he has built up during six years cutting hair in Durham.

On his reasons for returning to the Market Hall, Mr Huner said: “I’m coming back into the heart of Durham for my customers’ sakes. Returning to the Market Hall means I can be in complete control of my business and I can now ensure that my customers get the best possible service.

"My customers are very happy to come here for their haircuts, and I’m once again surrounded by the brilliant Market Hall family.

Veysel’s newly opened barbers in Durham Market Hall is decorated with his collection of vintage signs, from the UK and overseas, including signs reflecting his Turkish heritage.

He added: “My Grandad was a traditional barber in Turkey, my cousins and I have followed in his footsteps, and I learned much of what I know in Turkey. Since launching my first business, I’ve worked to constantly improve, I particularly enjoy developing my clients’ style, giving a customer a new look, ensuring they leave completely pleased with their hair.”

Colin Wilkes, Managing Director of Durham Markets, said: “It’s fantastic to see an independent business, such as Veysel’s going from strength to strength, and we’re thrilled that his latest step sees him return to the Market Hall and the heart of the city.

“The Market Hall is not only home to many of the city’s independents and the city’s answer to a department store, but it’s also a place where businesses support one another. Being surrounded by and backed by other independent businesses is vitally important to many of our traders, especially as we recover from the pandemic.”

Sharp Turkish Barbers is open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Saturday in Durham Market Hall, and available services include haircuts, hot towel shaves, nose and ear waxing and beard trims.
