A WOMAN has been taken to hospital following after crashing into a hospital wall.

The incident happened this morning at 8am when the car drove into the wall of Woodlands Hospital in Morden Park, Darlington.

The North East Ambulance Service has confirmed that they have taken one patient from the scene for treatment.

A statement from the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 7:59 to Woodlands Hospital, Darlington to a person injured after a car hit a building.

"We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and transported a female patient to Darlington Memorial Hospital."

In a statement, the hospital said no one inside the building was injured and the hospital will remain closed for the rest of the day.

Structural engineers are assessing the scene, but staff are hoping to get the hospital back open tomorrow.
