A CLEVELAND resident and amateur artist is thrilled to have some of her china art on display at the South Shields Museum as part of the exhibition honouring award-winning animator and artist, Sheila Graber.

Audrey Royle, 92, started attending china painting classes in the 1990’s. She enjoyed working with ceramics for almost two decades. Audrey said she is delighted to be recognised by Graber and selected to showcase her masterpieces.

In the 1970s, Audrey was heavily involved with the fashion shows for Empire Stores, using her creative insight to showcase the latest trends. She never lost this artistic eye but it wasn’t until her 90s that she applied this to creating beautiful china.

Audrey said: “I painted quite a range of china over the years and I’m delighted to have been recognised by Shelia. Seeing my work in an exhibition is a bit surreal, but I’m completely over the moon about it. I hope this inspires people my age to take a leap and try something new. It’s never too late to find something new that you love doing!”
