READY to give a rescue pup a forever home? There are hundreds of unwanted dogs searching for a new owner in Darlington.

We’ve found some absolute beauties who are ready to become your best friend.

Here's 15 dogs at Darlington's Dog's Trust branch that are looking for a home.

The Northern Echo:

Apollo and Lilo, Akita

Apollo is a very striking boy who will appeal to a lot of owners, and not just Akita lovers. He will need socialising positively with other dogs as he has not had any.

This lovely 2-year-old Akita may live with children aged 14 and over. Apollo is strong on the lead so will need to have some lead work carried on in the home.

He is fine to be left alone for a few hours but best to build up once he has settled into his new home.

Apollo is looking for a home with his beautiful sister Lilo. This pair have such a lovely bond and we would love to be able to find them a home together.

The Northern Echo:

Barb and Rue, Staffordshire Cross

Barb and her equally beautiful sister Rue could share their home with another dog and children over the age of eight as long as they are comfortable around bouncy dogs.

The pair are a beautiful pair of sisters looking to stay together as they have a lovely bond and enjoy each others company.

They are not particularly fond of kennel life and we would love to find them a forever home where they can relax and make friends with everyone and everything because they just love interacting.

They are such sweethearts and were toilet trained in their previous home and travel well in the car. A lovely pair of eager, bouncy girls looking for a fun family to call their own.

They will need some lead work and owners willing to put in the work on this as they are very vocal when out and they see other dogs.

The Northern Echo:

Bella, Greyhound

In true Greyhound style Bella's two favourite things in life are naps and food. She does take treats gently but doesn't mind helping herself so worktops will need to be kept clear.

Bella is on the lookout for a new home with a treat jar that is always full! She does like lounging around having some quiet time so would be best suited with older children (11 years and older).

Bella would like to be the only dog in the home as she enjoys having her own space. Although she can have walking buddies if they aren't too full on. Bella may need a refresher in some basic training.

The Northern Echo:

Charlie and Matty, crossbreed

Charlie is a cute little boy and a friendly little chap who is looking for a home with a his brother and best pal Matty.

They are looking for a comfortable retirement home where they get spoilt. He enjoys a short walk and is good on lead. Charlie enjoys his toys, but isn't always keen to share.

Charlie and Matty are looking for a quieter retirement home where they experience all of the home comforts. They are used to an outdoor life so will need to relearn their housetraining. they are older chaps (16 years old) and need to be the only dogs at home as they prefer their own company.

They can live with older teens (over 16 years). They really deserve to have a lovely home for their golden years.

Because Matty needs to use the Darlington Vet at the Centre for some health issues we will only rehome this cute little duo within an easy distance of the centre.

The Northern Echo:

Charlie, Short hair Chihuahua

Charlie is a quite a strong willed little character who definitely knows his own mind. He is not a fan of being picked up or over handled and accepts and enjoys attention on his own terms (he really is very affectionate but when he wants).

Charlie is house-trained and can be left for a little while. He is looking for a home with experienced dog owners who are able to understand his moods and able to read his body language.

He is looking for an adult only home and he will prefer to be the only dog though can have walking pals to keep him social(preferably nice tolerant females). Prospective owners will need to speak to a trainer before visiting and also to visit a few times before he can go home.

This cheeky boy will suit a home with people who may have had a dog like him before.

The Northern Echo:

Coca, Atika

The beautiful Coca is always on the lookout for a tasty treat and happily shows off her tricks.

She will need some training going forward into her new home as she likes to have people around for her and also needs a brush up on her house training.

She is very affectionate with people though will need to gradually build up her social skills with other dogs she can be a little over the top.

Coca is an absolute super star she is everything that's great about the breed. Coca could live with teenage children (over 14 years if required).

Her dog skills will need work but she could have nice calm walking buddies. She needs someone at home to help her settle in and learn that she will be ok to be left for a little while very gradually.

The Northern Echo:

Diesel, English Bulldog

Diesel is a gorgeous boy, very sweet and so affectionate, but he can be worried by new situatons, and new people. Once he gets used to people he is very friendly and loves attention.

New owners will need to be patient in settling him into his new home.Diesel struggles with being left alone and will need owners around for him for most of the day, and who can put a contingency plan in place for when he is left (at least until he is more used to it).

He may live with sensible children over the age of 14 years of age. Diesel must be the only dog in the home.

Potential owners will need to visit a couple of times at least to get to know this super boy, and speak to a member of the training team about him first.

The Northern Echo:

Elvis, Patterdale Terrier

What an absolute super star Elvis is - he's a real cuddle monster who loves a fuss, and happy for all handling.

He is an active lad who loves to be out exploring although can be vocal when he see's other dogs which needs some work but he is absolutely worth it.

Elvis is a little sweetheart who is very affectionate and he is very lively despite being an older boy. He can live with older children (over 14 years) but will need to the be only pet in a home.

He needs his own garden area so he can enjoy some offlead time due to having to be kept on lead for walks.

Elvis has been undergoing some training at the centre to reduce his arousal levels when seeing other dogs on walks and he has been doing great with it which will need continued in the home with the help and support from centre staff.

This will mean he will need to be walked at quiet times to set him up for success. He could be left for a maximum of two hours as he does love human company but was reportedly housetrained in his last home.

New owners will need to come to the centre at least a couple of times to meet Elvis and ensure the training can be transferred.

The Northern Echo:

Frank, German Shepard

Frank loves nothing more than to be playing with a ball and loves a game of search, he isn't a sharer though he prefers to keep them all to himself.

Frank is looking for an experienced adult only home. He could live with another dog but is a very playful soul so would need a tolerant house mate.

He is an independant character and would really suit someone with experience of the breed. Frank is only a youngster and thrives on mental enrichment which helps occupy his busy mind.

He is incredibly strong on the lead which needs some work.

Potential adopters will need to visit the centre multiple times and also multiple homevisits.

The Northern Echo:

Hector, Staffordshire Cross

The way to Hector's heart is with food. He loves it! He does take treats gently but does have a cheeky side and will help himself given the chance. Food enrichment games will be a great way for him to keep entertained and keep his mind active.

Hector is looking for a home with owners who are up for some training. He would be best suited as an only dog in the home but could have walking buddies to help build on his doggy social skills.

He likes to make friends slow and steady with the help of food. Hector is needing calm and patient owners who understand not to rush him. Once settled into a home environment his character will shine through.

Hector would love to have a garden of his own for a safe place for playtime.

The Northern Echo:

Jack, Crossbreed

Jack is a energetic, active boy who is onto and into everything. He can be worried by some new faces and some handling. Jack is looking for owners to be up for some training and will require multiple meets at the centre before coming home.

Jack is looking for an adult only home with no visiting children. He is looking for active owners who can keep him busy.

Jack will need owners around a lot of the day to build up time on his own. Jack needs some time to settle into his new home and to be able to make friends in his own time.
