A GRIEVING family has paid tribute to a woman who tragically died following a crash in County Durham at the weekend.

Lyndsey Watkins was in a grey BMW when it was involved in a crash on the A688 bypass at Bowburn on Sunday, September 5.

The 31-year-old mum was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Paying tribute to their beloved sister and daughter, Lyndsey’s family said: “It is with deepest regret that we announce the death of our sister, Lyndsey.

“She was a much-loved mam, sister, auntie, granddaughter and cousin, and will be sadly missed.

“We wish to thank everyone for their support and ask to be left so that we can grieve in peace.”

Police said a grey BMW has been travelling north from Bowburn Services, across the motorway interchange and up the A688 towards the A181, where it left the road and came to a stop in an adjacent field.

An investigation into the circumstances of the collision is currently underway.

  • Anybody with dashcam footage of the BMW prior to the collision, or with information relating to the incident, is asked to contact Durham Police on 101, quoting incident number 121 of September 5.
