NORTH Yorkshire police have now confirmed the name of the 89 year-old man who sadly died in three-car crash on the A59 last month.

Michael Rowbottom, from York, was previously a headmaster for a number of years at English Martyrs School in York until his retirement in the early 1990s.

The incident happened at around 5.10pm on August 25 and involved three cars and Michael, who was driving an Audi A3, was taken to hospital but sadly died.

Police say Michael leaves behind his  children John, Helen and Gerard who, according to police, miss him sorely. His late wife Molly, died in May last year.

The force are continuing to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the crash and has any information to get in touch.
