THIS was the scene of a crash site on Sunday afternoon where a teenager has died and three people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a car crashed into a wall in County Durham.

A Durham Police spokesperson said at 6.20pm on Saturday, a silver Ford Fiesta collided with a wall on Potterhouse Lane, in Pity Me, Durham.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, an 18-year-old woman, who was a rear passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

The driver - an 18-year-old man - and two passengers - an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl - were all taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Skid marks on the road, more than 30 meters long, show the car was travelling along the road in an easterly direction.

A large part of brick wall has been destroyed as a result of the crash.

Oil spillages on the road have been covered by sand and there is also a single bunch of flowers at the scene.

Police are keen to speak to any witnesses who were in the area at the time, or anyone who may have any dashcam footage of the vehicle prior to the collision.
