RECENTLY we looked at the top places to eat across North Yorkshire, it only seems right to see what Scarborough has to offer – but which places are the best rated?

From gastropub offerings to fish and chips, this list has a range of places for you to explore your culinary tastes.
As always, price ranges will also vary, with some places offering some quick bites for as little as £3 and some offering a more complete experience at £45.
Although cuisine on this list ranges from Turkish and Middle Eastern to American, there’s one thing all these venues have in common -they’re all highly reviewed.

These business have seen some of the best ratings across the board on TripAdvisor, with many picking up a TripAdvisor 2021 Travellers’ Choice award.
- The Farrier, Main Street, Scarborough
This Scarborough restaurant has undergone an “extensive” three year renovation project and the family behind this highly-rated restaurant say they have “breathed new life” into the historic building.
The description continues to say: “We believe the hospitality of an era long since gone combined with the unashamed luxury, modern conveniences and high end comforts required by today’s guests bring together a new standard of boutique experience to the area.”
Set in an historic building, this restaurant offers a range of dietary options and has bagged itself a TripAdvisor 2021 Travellers’ Choice Award.
The venue has received 447 “excellent” five-star reviews out of a total of 510 reviews all together.
One person said: “Just had two amazingly perfect nights at the farrier for our honeymoon. The staff went above and beyond with all our needs.
“Couldn't have asked for a better time. From the manager to the cleaning staff you were all so polite and incredible. The food was out of this world. We will definitely be booking for next year.”
The venue owner replies regularly to reviews on TripAdvisor, another great sign.
2. Lifeboat Fish Bar, Eastborough, Scarborough
Having included this on our top 10 places to eat in North Yorkshire list, the Lifeboat Fish Bar is a top pick and is widely known as one of the best fish and chip shops in the North East.
The venue describes itself as a “small traditional family run” fish and chip café and takeaway “just off the sea front.”
The business has picked up a TripAdvisor 2021 Travellers’ Choice Award and has received 526 “excellent” five-star reviews out of a total of 586 reviews all together.
One person said: “We decided to take a walk just off the front of Scarborough as all the Fish and Chip shops had really long queues, so glad we did we came across this one and, OMG!!! they were delicious, the staff were great too. The fish was cooked perfect.”
3. The Foulsyke Bistro, Baramoor lane, Scarborough
The Foulsyke Bistro offers excellent quality food for a very reasonable price and has been praised for this by many reviewers.
Picking up a TripAdvisor 2021 Travellers’ Choice Award, the business is loved by many and has received five-stars in food and service and four-and-a-half stars in value.
The venue has picked up 386 “excellent” five-star reviews out of a total of 448 reviews all together.

One person said: “Spent a lovely afternoon at the foulsyke bistro having a quality Sunday lunch. Food first class, very generous portions, staff very attentive and friendly.
“A lovely sunny day so had puddings and coffee in the garden a real relaxed atmosphere. A dog friendly place too excellent!! We will be back for sure!”
4. AZ Restaurant, Columbus Ravine, Scarborough
This family run restaurant makes home-made and fresh Mediterranean Turkish cuisine using family recipes that have been passed down for generations.
Run by the Mehmet-Hassan family, according to the description, this venue prides itself “on good food and good service, and try and give good value for money.”
The business has received four-and-a-half-stars on every aspect of service such as food, service, value and atmosphere.
Reviewers have awarded it 890 “excellent” five-star reviews out of a total of 1,084 reviews all together and the venue has grabbed a TripAdvisor 2021 Travellers’ Choice Award
One person said: “Lovely atmosphere and wonderful service. Vegetarian mezze board was delicious, as was the stuffed aubergine I had for main.
“But I was really blown away but how delicious the desserts were too…I can highly recommend the Turkish delight cheesecake and the baklava!!
“Thank you AZ I will absolutely be booking a table again.”
5. Bryherstones Inn, Newlands Road, Scarborough
Offering more traditional pub food, this venue seems like a great choice for those looking for their pub favourites but with a twist.
With beautifully presented food, going by their TripAdvisor pictures, this village pub on the outskirts of Scarborough is another one on this list to bag a TripAdvisor 2021 Travellers’ Choice Award.
Bryherstones Inn has received five stars in food and service and four-and-a-half-stars in value and atmosphere.
868 of the reviews are “excellent” or five-stars out of a total of 1,067 altogether.
One person said: “From the moment I phoned to book, I could tell this was a good choice.
“All the staff were friendly and we were checked on a number of times to make sure everything was alright.
“The place wasn’t crowded which made us feel safe and then there was the food. A great choice all locally sourced. Fish, meat and vegetarian. Well worth a visit. Thank you. We really enjoyed our evening.”
6. The Green Room of Bar Street, Bar Street, Scarborough
With prices ranging from £5 to £45, The Green Room of Bar Street offers visitors a range of dietary options and good quality food.
Another one on our list to pick up a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award for 2021, and has received four-and-a-half-stars on all services including food, service and value.
The Green Room of Bar Street has received 307 reviews out of a total of 340 reviews altogether.
One person said: “Wow - Again Scarborough amazes! This was one of the best Sunday lunches I have had.
“Lovely drinks, wine, food, service and of course - environment! What a beautiful place. Top drawer food and service for a very ‘Yorkshire’ price. Brilliant!!”
7. Lezzet Mediterranean Bistro, Aberdeen Walk, Scarborough
Another venue on our list to offer traditional Mediterranean and Turkish food, Lezzet offers some beautifully presented dishes going off the pictures provided on TripAdvisor.
Although the restaurant doesn’t have many reviews, it is one of the best reviewed on this list receiving 146 “excellent” five-star reviews out of a total of 167 reviews altogether.
And of course, the business has also picked up a TripAdvisor 2021 Travellers Choice Award.
One person said: “My family and I booked in to this restaurant as we’d heard very good things about the food and service alike.

“I can honestly say that is the best meal I’ve had in Scarborough in many years. I would highly recommend you try it if you haven’t already.
“Food was served hot and in a timely manner. Next time I’m in the area I will 100% be returning.”
8. Cowshed Burgers, Thomas Street, Scarborough
From burgers and fries to Coca-Cola in a glass bottle, this restaurant offers the complete American dining experience.
At a fairly good price customers can also enjoy a range of dietary options, helping the venue secure a TripAdvisor 2021 Travellers Choice Award.
The restaurant has received four-and-a-half-stars in food, service and value and has received 377 “excellent” five-star reviews out of a total 476 reviews.
One person said: “Stumbled across this place when searching somewhere to eat, what a great accident that was!
“Great atmosphere, friendly helpful staff and the BEST burger we've ever eaten.
“We had the Hawaiin special that was just insane and upgraded to the buffalo fries. Everything was just perfect. Great beer choice too, now a huge fan of the Modelo!
Will be making sure we visit again.”
9. Tuscany Too, Filey Road, Scarborough
This small restaurant offers the tastes of Italy with reasonably priced, but very tasty, food for those who visit.
According to TripAdvisor, prices at this restaurant can come to between £21 and £41, not a bad price for a good meal.

Tuscany Too is another business to bag itself a TripAdvisor 2021 Travellers’ Choice Award and it has received 432 “excellent” five-star reviews out of a total of 631 reviews all together.
One person said: “We ate here and loved it! The food and wine we're lovely. What made this place super special was the fact the waitress was obviously run off her feet but nothing was too much trouble. She managed the situation really well. We would definitely return.”
10. Clark’s Restaurant, Queen Street, Scarborough
Last but not least, comes Clark’s Restaurant, which prides itself on local produce and a menu that “offers a playful yet skill-full level of cooking allowing you to try new and exciting dishes with flavour.”
The venue even offers some local lobsters along with Scarborough Market meat, according to the description on TripAdvisor, as well as Scarborough seaweeds which they say results “in a unique, modern, relaxed dining experience.”
Prices at Clark’s range from £5 to £30, offering some great value for money, and the restaurant has been awarded four-and-a-half-stars in food, service and value.
Receiving 253 “excellent” five-star reviews out of 304 reviews all together the business has picked up a TripAdvisor Travellers Choice Award as a result.
One person said: “Just got back from this lovely place, last place we visited before departing Scarborough and yes a breathe if fresh air, a personnel experience that we wont forget.
“Thank you so much for a warmer friendly experience, the only thing I would say a veg medley would be a nice option with the steak but by no means a criticism, a beautifully family run business worthy of a Michelin star, well done all of you, no I in team.”
