MEMBERS of Shildon and District Flower Club marked its ruby anniversary at Shildon Civic Hall.

The club has about 70 members from across County Durham, including some who were at the first meeting in 1980.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary, members enjoyed lunch and an afternoon of flower arranging by demonstrator Mildred Stafford, who discussed how flower arranging has changed in four decades.

Founder president, Cynthia Scott, shared the club's history then was joined by president Phyllis Wilkinson, associate of honour Elizabeth Lewis and Mildred Stafford to cut a cake made by Chairman Pauline Wadge.

The new season starts on Monday, September 6 at 7.30pm at Shildon Civic Hall when area demonstrator, Daphne Dawson, presents an evening of flower arranging entitled All Shapes and Sizes.

Entry £5 on the door, visitors welcome and there are stalls, a bar and the demonstrator’s flowers are raffled.
