A BY-ELECTION for a town’s council is to be held following the death of the serving councillor.

A Middlesbrough Council by-election is being held after the death of Ladgate ward member Councillor June Goodchild.

Nomination papers for the election are available from Electoral Services, PO Box 503, Town Hall, Middlesbrough, TS1 9FX and must be delivered to the Returning Officer no later than 4pm on Thursday, August 19.

If the election is contested the poll will take place on Thursday, September 16.

Those residents who are already registered to vote in the area will receive a Poll Card between August 11 and August 18.

The last date to register to vote in this by-election will be Tuesday, August 31.

Deadline for receiving new postal vote and postal proxy applications, and for changes to existing postal or postal proxy votes, is 5pm on Wednesday, September 1.

Deadline for receiving proxy applications, and for changes to existing proxy votes is 5pm on Wednesday, September 8.

Applications for an emergency proxy vote applied for on grounds of medical emergency or work reasons occurred after 5pm on Wednesday, September 8, must be submitted to the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Thursday, September 16.
