A FIRE at a play area in the early hours of this morning had been started deliberately, firefighters said.

A crew from Colburn Fire Station was called to reports of a fire at the play area on Enfield Close, Catterick Garrison, at 1.39am.

They were able to use one hose reel jet to extinguish the small fire which had been started deliberately.

A crew from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service's Acomb station, in York, also had to deal with a wheelie bin which had been set alight deliberately in an alleyway opposite Bright Street, York, just after 4am.
