FOLLOWING on from last week, we've been raiding the "Pub Olympics" packet of photographs filed in The Northern Echo's archive.

The Pub Olympics was a competition held by the Echo's former sister paper, the Evening Despatch, in 1983 and 1984. It capitalised on an interest in traditional pub games like pool, bar billiards, bar skittles, table football, arm wrestling, darts, dominoes and shove ha’penny.

We haven't yet worked out exactly which games were played in the Pub Olympics, but there are pictures of high octane darts and doms being played by teams from south Durham pubs.

If you recognise anyone on our pictures, or can tell us anything about the Pub Olympics, please email chris.lloyd@nne.co.uk
