TEESSIDERS will be able to fly to Turkey as soon as next year after a brand new route from the region’s airport was revealed.

Travel provider TUI has revealed a second summer service to the popular Turkish destination of Antalya.

Every Thursday from May 26 to September 22 next year, holidaymakers will be able to jet off from their local airport to the province, located on Turkey’s south-west coast.

The route, which will depart Teesside at 9.30am and return at 8:30am UK time, joins TUI’s weekly flights to Palma, Majorca, which will run every Tuesday from May 10 next year.

TUI announced a return to Teesside after nine years last October and is the 15th route to be secured since the airport was taken back into public ownership two years ago, to save it from closure.

Karen Switzer, Director of Aviation Planning at TUI said: “We’re delighted to be expanding our summer 2022 programme from Teesside Airport with a new route to Turkey.

“This additional destination will provide even more choice for our customers in the area.”

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said the announcement is a “huge vote of confidence” in the airport.

“It was a fantastic coup to announce that the UK’s biggest holiday firm is coming back to Teesside and this just proves that with a clear plan we can make the airport the success we all know it can be,” he said.

“TUI’s increased commitment for summer 2022 is another huge vote of confidence, and we’ll continue to work with the firm to see how we can get people from their doorstep and through our terminal.”
